If your hood’s light is on or blinking and you’re trying to match it to a code, know that this is a maintenance reminder, not a diagnostic problem, and it clears with routine cleaning rather than a repair.
Why the Filter Indicator Comes On
- The hood has logged enough run hours since the last filter reset, which is how most models track this on a timer rather than an actual grease sensor
- Genuinely heavy grease buildup on the mesh filter reducing airflow through the hood
- The filter reset button was never pressed after the last cleaning, so the timer kept counting
How to Clear It
Remove the mesh or baffle filters from underneath the hood and wash them in hot, soapy water or run them through the dishwasher if the manual allows it, since built-up grease reduces both suction and fire safety. Once the filters are clean and dry, reinstall them and press and hold the filter reset button, usually located on the hood’s control panel, until the indicator turns off.
