How a Samsung appliance reports a problem
Samsung publishes its own error-code system for most electronic-control appliances, and the format differs by category — washers and dryers use short alphanumeric codes like 4C or dC, dishwashers and cooking appliances use “C-xx” or numeric “xC/xE” codes, refrigerators use short letter-number alerts, and microwaves use “E-xx” codes. Three categories — freezers, ice makers, and range hoods — display no discrete error code at all and are read entirely by symptom. The code-bearing categories
A washer shows 4C/nF (fill), 5E (drain), UE (unbalanced load), or dC (door). A dryer shows dC/dF (door), tS/tO (vent or temperature), or HC (overheat). A dishwasher shows 4C (water supply), 5C (drain), 7C (WaterWall reflector), or 9C (low water). A refrigerator shows 5E (defrost sensor), 21E/23E (fan failures), or 84C (compressor lock). A range, oven, and cooktop share the C-F0/C-d0/C-20 MICOM family. A microwave shows E-11 through E-26 gas- and temperature-sensor codes.
The symptom-only categories
Three Samsung categories publish no discrete error code for the general case. A standalone freezer and a range hood are diagnosed entirely by symptom, and a built-in ice maker sub-assembly is read by what it does — no ice, frozen over, or won’t dispense — unless it reports through the host refrigerator’s own sensor codes.
When to reset and when to call
For many problems the homeowner step is the same: power-cycle at the breaker for 30 to 60 seconds and watch the panel. A code that clears and does not return may simply have been a momentary condition. A persistent sensor, drain, or communication code, a door-lock failure, or any symptom that does not improve after a basic check calls for an experienced, independent technician with the correct OEM or high-quality replacement part.
