Samsung’s microwave lineup spans countertop ME models, over-the-range MC units, and built-in speed-oven MS models, and the failures we see differ quite a bit depending on which category is involved. An over-the-range unit doing double duty as a range hood fails differently than a countertop model running on its own circuit, but both share the same control-board diagnostic codes.
Samsung’s Microwave Categories
ME-series units are freestanding countertop microwaves, sized and powered for basic reheating and defrosting without ventilation duties. MC-series over-the-range models combine microwave functions with a built-in exhaust fan and light for the cooktop below, and typically include sensor cooking that adjusts time automatically based on steam output. MS-series units are built-in or speed-oven models, often installed above a wall oven, and some support convection cooking in addition to standard microwave functions for faster roasting or baking. SmartThings connectivity is available on select MC and MS models for remote monitoring and preset notifications.
Microwave Issues We Repair
- Turntable not spinning, or spinning but the unit isn’t heating
- Door won’t latch, or the unit won’t start with the door closed
- Display dim, blank, or flashing without a clear error message
- Over-the-range exhaust fan or light not working while the microwave itself functions
- Sparking or arcing noise during operation
- Control panel buttons unresponsive or registering the wrong selection
Samsung Microwave Error codes
Gas or PH sensor failures, used in sensor-cook models to detect steam output, display as C-10, C-11, or C-12. Temperature sensor issues read C-20, C-21, or C-22, and door or key-panel failures show C-d0, C-d1, or C-d2. Communication problems with the control board appear as C-F0, C-F1, or C-F2. A more detailed gas sensor failure set shows E-11 through E-14, while temperature problems in that numbering range from E-21 to E-26. Weight or door-related problems display E-31 through E-36, and communication issues in that format show E-81 through E-83. A key short reads -SE-, a code also used on Samsung ranges and cooktops, and touch panel communication problems show TE. The complete list is on our microwave error code page.
How Microwave Repairs Are Handled
We start with the error code, then test the magnetron, high-voltage capacitor, door interlock switches, and turntable motor depending on what’s indicated. On over-the-range models, we also check the exhaust fan motor and light assembly separately, since those failures are unrelated to the microwave’s heating circuit and are easy to misdiagnose as one issue.
