Most service calls on Samsung dryers (DVE electric and DVG gas) trace back to a small handful of preventable habits, especially around lint and venting. A few minutes of regular maintenance goes a long way toward avoiding them. This guide is independent and not affiliated with Samsung.
Clean the lint filter every load
This sounds obvious, but a lint filter that isn’t cleaned every single cycle is the single biggest contributor to reduced airflow, longer dry times, and overheating problems. A dryer working harder to push air through a clogged filter runs hotter internally, which accelerates wear on the heating element or igniter well before its expected lifespan.
Clean the exhaust vent regularly
- Annual vent cleaning: lint accumulates inside the exhaust duct itself, not just the filter, and a fully or partially blocked vent line is a common cause of tS, tO, or tE temperature codes as well as HC/hE overheat problems. Have the full duct run cleaned at least once a year, more often for longer runs or households that dry frequently.
- Check the exterior vent flap: make sure it opens freely when the dryer runs and isn’t blocked by debris, snow, or a bird’s nest outside.
- Avoid excessive duct length and sharp bends: if your installation has a long run to the outside, consider a periodic mid-run inspection, since lint accumulates fastest at bends.
Don’t overload the drum
Packing the drum too full restricts airflow around the load and forces the dryer to run longer cycles at higher heat to compensate, which adds wear to the heating element, igniter, and drum motor over time. Splitting a large load in two is easier on the machine and often faster overall than one oversized load.
Check the door seal and lint trap housing
A worn door seal lets air escape rather than circulate properly through the drum, extending dry times in a way that’s easy to mistake for a heating problem. Periodically wipe down the gasket and the lint trap housing where lint can accumulate outside the removable filter itself.
Watch for early warning signs
Clothes taking noticeably longer to dry than they used to, the outside of the dryer feeling hotter than normal, or a burning smell during operation are all signs to stop and inspect the vent system immediately rather than continuing to run cycles. These symptoms often appear well before an error code does.
Gas-specific maintenance (DVG models)
Gas dryers benefit from an occasional visual check of the flexible gas connector behind the unit for kinks or wear, particularly if the dryer has ever been moved for cleaning or flooring work. While igniter and gas valve service should be left to a qualified technician, simply making sure nothing is resting against or crimping the gas line during routine cleaning helps avoid unnecessary service calls caused by restricted gas flow rather than a genuine component failure.
When maintenance isn’t enough
