The C-20 code on a Samsung range comes from the shared MICOM control system used across Samsung’s NE and NX ranges, ovens, and cooktops. It points to the oven temperature sensor circuit reading outside the range the control board expects during cooking or self-clean.
What can trigger C-20
- A temperature sensor (also called an RTD probe) inside the oven cavity that has drifted out of calibration or failed
- The sensor probe touching the oven wall or a rack, which can cause an inaccurate reading that the board flags as an error
- A wiring connector between the sensor and the control board that has loosened, often from heat cycling over years of use
- A control board that has failed to interpret an otherwise working sensor’s signal correctly
What to check
- Open the oven and look at the sensor probe, usually a thin metal rod near the back wall, and confirm it isn’t bent or touching a rack or the cavity wall
- Let the oven cool completely and power-cycle the range at the breaker, then try a short preheat to see if C-20 returns immediately
- Avoid running a self-clean cycle while this code is present, since that mode relies heavily on accurate temperature sensing
- Note whether the code appears only during self-clean or during regular baking as well, since that timing helps narrow the cause
A sensor probe repositioned away from rack contact sometimes resolves the issue on its own. If the code persists after a clean reset with the probe clear, the sensor itself has likely failed electrically and needs testing with a multimeter rather than continued preheats, since inaccurate temperature readings can affect baking results even before the range locks out entirely.
