The 7E code appears on Samsung dishwashers equipped with WaterWall technology, the horizontal spray arm that slides beneath the bottom rack. It signals that the reflector or sensor tracking that spray arm’s movement is not reporting correctly to the control board.
What tends to trigger 7E
- Food debris or a dropped item blocking the WaterWall arm’s rail, preventing it from sliding fully
- A reflective sensor strip on the underside of the tub that has become dirty or coated in film
- The WaterWall arm sitting slightly off its track after loading dishes carelessly against it
- A loose connector on the sensor wiring near the rear of the tub floor
What to check yourself
- Pull out the bottom rack and inspect the WaterWall arm’s rail for anything wedged underneath it, such as a fallen lid or utensil
- Slide the arm by hand and confirm it glides smoothly from one end of the rail to the other without catching
- Wipe down the rail and any visible sensor surface with a damp cloth, since hard water film can interfere with tracking
- Reload the bottom rack so tall items are not pressing against the arm’s path
Clearing an obstruction or cleaning the rail resolves 7E in many cases, since the problem is often mechanical rather than electrical. If the arm moves freely by hand but the code still returns as soon as a cycle starts, the sensor or its connector is the more likely cause, and that generally calls for a closer inspection with the panel opened rather than continued cycling, which can strain the drive motor.
