Samsung’s DW80 series dishwashers are known for the WaterWall spray system and quiet operation, but like any dishwasher they develop drain clogs, sensor failures, and pump failures over years of use. When dishes come out gritty, the cycle won’t finish, or the control panel shows an error code, the underlying cause is usually one of a limited set of components rather than something requiring a full replacement.
What’s Different About Samsung Dishwashers
Instead of a traditional rotating spray arm on the bottom rack, Samsung’s WaterWall design uses a horizontal water jet that sweeps back and forth across the bottom of the tub, which Samsung positions as more thorough coverage for large pots and baking sheets. StormWash models add a dedicated spray arm aimed at heavily soiled items placed on the middle rack. Bespoke dishwashers extend this with AutoRelease doors that crack open automatically at the end of a cycle to vent steam and speed drying, along with SmartThings cycle notifications. Most DW80 models also include a Smart Dial or button-based control panel with sanitize and delay-start options.

Samsung Dishwasher Error Codes
Filter and heater problems display as 1E or IE. A pump failure shows 3C, and water reaching an unsafe temperature above 176°F trips 3E. Supply-side issues appear as 4C or 4E, and drain problems show 5C or 5E. Because Samsung dishwashers use the WaterWall reflector instead of a conventional spray arm, a blocked or misaligned reflector shows as its own code, 7C or 7E. Low water detection reads 9C or 9E, and a stuck control button trips bE or 6E. Overheating shows HC, while a temperature detection failure reads HE. Leak sensors trigger LC or LE, excess water in the tub shows OC or oE, and a general temperature sensor failure displays as tE. How Repairs Typically Go
We pull the error code first, then inspect the drain pump, filter basket, and WaterWall reflector assembly, since debris buildup around the reflector is a common and easily overlooked cause of both poor cleaning and false error codes. Heater elements, door seals, and control boards are tested individually rather than replaced on assumption. Most DW80 repairs are completed in a single visit.
