Most Common Causes
- A shutoff valve behind the washer that is only partially open, or was bumped closed during cleaning
- A kinked, frozen, or crushed inlet hose, especially on machines installed close to a wall
- A clogged inlet filter screen where the hose connects to the washer — sediment and mineral buildup collect here over time
- Low household water pressure feeding the laundry connection
What You Can Check Yourself
Start at the shutoff valves and turn each one fully counter-clockwise until it stops. Disconnect the hoses at the back of the washer and look inside the connection ports for the small mesh screens; if they’re caked with grit, rinse them under a faucet with an old toothbrush. Straighten any hose that’s pinched behind the cabinet and confirm both hot and cold lines are actually feeding water when opened over a bucket.
If the screens are clean, the valves are fully open, and you still see 4C, the issue is more likely a failing water inlet valve on the machine itself or a wiring failure at the control board — both are internal repairs.
