dC on a Samsung washer is a door or lid lock failure. The control board can’t confirm the door is fully closed and latched, so it refuses to start or continue a cycle — a safety feature that keeps the drum locked and sealed once water is in the tub.
Why This Happens
- The door wasn’t pushed firmly enough to engage the latch, especially common right after loading laundry
- Laundry, a strap, or a stray sock caught in the door seal, keeping it from closing flush
- A worn or misaligned door strike that no longer lines up with the latch mechanism
- A failing door lock switch that isn’t sending the “closed” signal to the board even though the door is shut
Steps to Try Before Calling for Service
Open the door fully, run your hand around the entire rubber gasket to clear any trapped fabric, then close the door firmly until you hear or feel the latch click. On front-load models, check that nothing is wedged between the door glass and the gasket lip — even a single sock edge can prevent a full seal. If the washer was recently moved or the door hinge feels loose, the strike plate may be out of alignment.
Unplug the washer for a minute and power it back on to clear the problem, then try the door again. If it locks and holds through a cycle, you’re set.
