Ub, sometimes shown as UE, means the washer has detected an unbalanced load during spin. The drum’s sensors pick up uneven weight distribution and the machine pauses or slows the spin cycle to redistribute laundry before continuing, rather than risk excessive vibration.
Common Triggers
- A single bulky item — a comforter, rug, or bath mat — spun alone or with too small a load around it
- Wet laundry that clumped into one section of the drum during wash
- A very small load, like one towel, that can’t distribute weight evenly
- The washer sitting unlevel on the floor, which makes normal loads read as unbalanced
What to Check
Pause the cycle, open the door, and manually redistribute the load so items are spread evenly around the drum rather than bunched to one side. Add a towel or two if the load is very small and light. Next, check that all four leveling feet are firmly on the floor with no rocking — press down on each corner of the washer to feel for movement, and adjust the feet if one side lifts.
Restart the cycle after rebalancing. Persistent Ub codes even with properly loaded, redistributed laundry point toward a leveling issue or a worn suspension component rather than the load itself.
When to Call for Repair
