Before you decide whether a dishwasher is worth repairing, find its samsung dishwasher model number. It is the difference between a guess and an answer: the number identifies the generation, the generation determines which spray system and which control board are inside, and that in turn decides which parts exist, which error codes the panel can show, and whether the repair is a thirty dollar part or a control assembly.
Where do I find the model number on a Samsung dishwasher?
Open the door and look at the edge that faces you when the door is shut — the narrow strip along the top or the side of the inner door panel. On most Samsung dishwashers the rating label sits there, and it carries the model number, the serial number and the electrical data on one sticker.
If that label has been wiped away by years of cleaning, two backups usually survive. The first is the tub rim, just inside the opening where the door seal meets the cabinet. The second is on the frame behind the lower toe panel, which comes off with two screws.
Photograph the label rather than copying it by hand. These numbers mix letters and digits that are easy to confuse — a zero for the letter O, a one for the letter I — and a single wrong character orders the wrong part. Keep the photograph somewhere you can find it, because the label becomes unreadable long before the machine stops working.
How do I read a number like DW80CG4021SR?
Samsung numbers are built in blocks rather than arbitrary, and you do not need the whole decoding table to get the useful part out of them. Take three examples that turn up constantly on this site.
- DW80CG4021SR. DW is a dishwasher, 80 is the full size 24 inch cabinet, CG marks the generation, the digits give the feature tier within it, and SR is the finish suffix.
- DW80K7050US. Same cabinet, an earlier K generation, a higher feature tier — the 7 series — and the US suffix.
- DW80R7060US. Same cabinet again, the R generation, and this one carries the sliding WaterWall spray bar rather than a conventional lower arm.
The lesson is that the shared DW80 tells you almost nothing about what is inside. The generation letter and the tier digit carry the information. Two machines that look identical in a kitchen can have different pumps, different racks, different boards and different diagnostic behavior.

Why do two Samsung dishwashers show different error codes?
Because the code set belongs to the control board, and the board belongs to the generation. This site keeps a page for every code it has seen on these machines, and the model pages list which codes go with which model.
The DW80CG4021SR and the DW80K7050US both report OC and OE — the over level water and overfill family, which is a float switch and fill control story. The DW80R7060US reports 1E, 3C and 7E, and 7E exists only because that generation has a moving spray bar to report a fault about.
So the same complaint — the machine stops and shows a code — leads to different parts on different generations. Looking a code up without the model number is how people end up buying a sensor for a machine that does not have one. The Samsung dishwasher error code diagnostics guide covers the full set, and our guide to the WaterWall spray system covers the generation that carries it.
What does the model number tell a technician before the visit?
More than most people expect, and it shortens the visit. Give the model number when you book and the technician arrives knowing the pump type, the rack configuration, the board revision and the common failures for that run.
It also settles parts availability, which is the single largest variable in whether a repair is sensible. Parts for a generation still in production are ordinary stock items. Parts for a discontinued run may exist only as remanufactured boards, and that changes the arithmetic of repairing versus replacing more than the labor does.
The serial number on the same label matters too, because Samsung revises parts within a model run. A circulation pump can change partway through production, and the serial is what separates the two versions.
It changes the diagnosis itself, too. Knowing that a machine is a WaterWall generation means a complaint about one side of the lower rack coming out dirty is read as a spray bar that is not completing its travel, rather than as a blocked rotating arm that the machine does not have. The same complaint on a conventional generation leads somewhere else entirely, and the model number is what decides which conversation to have.
Does the model number change the repair or replace decision?
It does, in three concrete ways. First, age: the generation letter puts the machine on a timeline, and a dishwasher past ten years old is a different proposition from one past three. Second, parts: a repair that needs a board on a discontinued run is often the point where replacement wins. Third, feature tier — a high tier machine with a stainless tub, a third rack and a quiet motor is worth more repair than an entry model, simply because the replacement costs more.
What the model number does not do is set a price. Any repair here starts from a diagnostic visit, and the number that matters is the one quoted after someone has looked at the machine. Our repair or replace guide works through the whole decision, and our third rack guide covers one of the features that pushes a machine up a tier.
What should I write down before calling?
Four things, and the call gets much shorter. The full model number exactly as printed. The serial number from the same label. Any code on the display, with the exact characters. And what the machine was doing when it stopped — filling, washing, draining, or refusing to start.
