TL;DR: A Samsung cooktop model number tells you three things before you read a spec sheet: NZ means an electric or induction cooktop and NA means gas, the two digits that follow are the width in inches (24, 30 or 36), and the letters and digits after that mark the generation, feature tier and finish. Read the prefix and the width first, then confirm the rest on the rating plate.
Owners usually meet the model number when something goes wrong: a code on the display, a part to order, a question for a technician. Buyers meet it earlier, on a store listing, and the string looks like noise. The Samsung cooktop model number is actually a short, readable label, and learning to read it helps you shop, order parts and describe a problem accurately. This guide decodes the models listed on this site, including NZ24T4360RK, NZ30K6330RS, NZ36K6430RS, NZ36M9880UB and NA36N6555TS, and explains what each prefix means for installation, cookware and repair.
How do I read a Samsung cooktop model number?
Take NZ36K6430RS apart in pieces. The first two letters, NZ, say the cooktop is electric or induction. NA at the start says gas. The next two digits are the nominal width in inches, so NZ36 is a 36-inch cooktop and NA30 is a 30-inch one. The letter that follows, such as K, M, N or T, and the digits after it are the series and feature tier, and the last letters are a finish and market code. Samsung does not publish a decoder, so treat the series letters as a family label and not as a guaranteed feature list.
Always check the rating plate on your own cooktop or the spec sheet for the exact model before you rely on the table. The prefix and width are reliable; the tier and feature set vary by year and retailer.
Is an NZ or NA Samsung cooktop right for my kitchen?
The prefix decides what the kitchen must supply. An NZ cooktop needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized for it. An NA gas cooktop needs a gas line and an ordinary electrical outlet for the igniters and controls, along with proper ventilation. Changing from one to the other later means electrical or plumbing work, so choose with the existing utilities in mind. If you are still comparing fuel types, the main trade-off is that induction heats the pan directly and responds quickly but needs compatible cookware, while gas works with any pan and gives a visible flame.
Check that your cookware suits an induction top before you buy one. A magnet that clings firmly to the bottom of the pan is a good test, and pots that fail it will show as unrecognized. When a zone does not detect a pan it reports it, and the Pan Error and U messages on this site both mean the zone does not detect suitable cookware. Our Samsung cooktop pan detection tips go into this in detail.

Which width should I choose?
Match the width to the countertop opening first. Cooktops are sold to fit cutouts, and a different width means changing the counter. The 30-inch size is the most common and fits most standard kitchens; the 36-inch size adds room for large pans and more elements or burners; the 24-inch size suits a small kitchen or an apartment. A cooktop’s width is also a clue to its ventilation needs, since a wider cooktop usually calls for a more powerful hood. Our guide to Samsung range hood venting and pairing shows how the two work together.
Measure the cutout, the depth behind the cooktop and the clearance to the wall or cabinet. Installation requirements vary by model, so use the installation sheet for the exact model, and have the supply checked by a qualified electrician or gas installer. If you are replacing an existing cooktop, the Samsung cooktop installation checks list what to verify before assuming the new unit is at fault.
What goes wrong on these cooktops, and what do the codes say?
Because induction cooktops are electronic, the common problems are control and cooling related. On this site, C-22 on a cooktop means it overheated or its cooling airflow is restricted, C-F2 is an induction module communication or sensor issue, d0 is an induction module or low-voltage control issue, and SE is a touch key that is stuck or a panel that is contaminated. Cleaning the glass and keeping the vents clear prevents several of these. For a gas model, problems are more often ignition and cleaning related.
Knowing the model number speeds up any repair, because parts and boards differ between series. Have it ready when you call. Our Samsung cooktop troubleshooting guide and cooktop error code diagnostics list the codes in full, and how to maintain a Samsung cooktop covers upkeep.
Is it better to repair or replace an older cooktop?
If a cooktop has a single failed part and the rest is sound, a repair is usually far cheaper than a new unit and avoids reworking the cutout. If the glass is cracked or several zones are failing, replacing it is the better option. The Samsung cooktop repair-or-replace guide covers the decision.
